Apprenticeship and levy statistics: January 2018

This release provides headline experimental statistics on the use of the apprenticeship service. These include apprenticeship service account registrations (ASAs) and number of commitments (reported to November 2017), where an apprentice who is expected to go on to start has been recorded in the system.

New to this release are monthly apprenticeship starts information for the first 3 months of the 2017 to 2018 academic year and apprenticeship levy declarations (reported to November 2017).

Multi-academy trust performance measures: 2016 to 2017

Data and analysis on the performance of multi-academy trusts (MATs). It is based on measures of progress for MATs with 3 or more academies that have been with the MAT for at least 3 full academic years and have results in the 2017 school performance tables.

A ‘similar intake of pupils’ is calculated by estimating the attainment for each pupil achieving the expected standard or higher in reading, writing and mathematics.

Ready reckoners and transition matrices for key stage 4: 2017

Ready reckoners

The pupil Progress 8 ready reckoner calculates the Progress 8 score for an individual pupil.

The English Baccalaureate (EBacc) pupil ready reckoner calculates value-added (VA) scores for EBacc subjects (science, humanities and languages) for an individual pupil.

The Progress 8 measure is a secondary school accountability system. It aims to encourage schools to teach a broad curriculum and reward schools that teach all pupils well. It measures pupils’ progress across 8 subjects from age 11 to 16.

Transition matrices

The transition matrices explore the national distribution of GCSE grades in each subject and attainment in headline indicators for all pupils with the same key stage 2 prior attainment.

16 to 18 qualifications, discount codes and point scores

This page contains information about qualifications, discount codes and point scores for the school and college performance tables.

We use discount codes to group qualifications with similar content together in the school and college performance tables so that we don’t count similar qualifications twice. The discounting guidance describes the rules for how we do this.

We give a point value to all qualifications in the school and college performance tables so that you can compare qualifications of a different level, size and grading system. These point scores are shown in the point scores document.

Free school travel: funding allocations

How much funding local authorities received for free school travel in each financial year from 2015 to 2019.

Local authorities use this funding to pay for home-to-school travel for children from low-income families who go to school further from home than the statutory walking distances.
